One of my favorite ways to be sustainable is by wearing ‘slow fashion.’ The fast fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world - about 85% of textiles end up in landfills each year. It also produces 10% of the world’s carbon emissions. Just say no to the $20 dresses! A few slow fashion brands I love are: Molly Moorkamp, the SIL Shop, and J. Peterman. I have had several pieces from J. Peterman for about 15 years, so it’s been well worth the investment I made in 2007!

I also love to shop for clothing secondhand. I don’t like to wear thrifted clothing, but have found some amazing pieces on eBay, Poshmark, and the RealReal. This is also such a great way to get beautiful pieces for less - some recent finds include an Ann Mashburn cashmere sweater for $60, Orvis pants for $11, and Nantucket red shorts for $20.

I try to use antique and vintage items in my home to be sustainable, too. There is so much plastic junk and throwaway home decor out there, similar to fast fashion items. Your home will look better without cheap things everywhere, and you’ll be helping keep items out of landfills.
